Install and run power-tv

Everything you need to get the app running, connect Shizuku for deeper data, and build from source.

Requirements

On your phone

  • Android 7.0 (API 24) or newer
  • No root required
  • Shizuku 11 or newer, optional

To build from source

  • Android SDK Platform 37
  • JDK 24 — the wrapper provisions it through Foojay when needed
  • Gradle 9.6.0 via the included wrapper

Install the APK

Install the latest signed release directly from GitHub. The APK is under 2 MB.

  1. Download the latest APK from GitHub Releases.
  2. Allow installs from unknown sources for the browser or file manager you use.
  3. Open the downloaded APK and confirm the installation.
  4. Launch power-tv. No account or network permission is required.

The APK is served by GitHub Releases; this site does not host binaries.

Optional Shizuku

Shizuku is optional. It unlocks system CPU load and the full process list through a user service running under the ADB shell UID.

  1. Install Shizuku 11 or newer and start it using its own instructions (ADB, wireless debugging or root).
  2. Open the Processes tab in power-tv and tap Grant.
  3. Allow access in the Shizuku dialog and wait for the status to become connected.

Without Shizuku, the UI explains why data is unavailable instead of showing guessed values. power-tv never requests root.

Build from source

Build a debug APK with the Gradle wrapper. You can also open the project in Android Studio.

./gradlew assembleDebug
adb install -r app/build/outputs/apk/debug/app-debug.apk

Output: app/build/outputs/apk/debug/app-debug.apk

Or open the project in Android Studio and run it from the IDE.

Run tests

JVM unit tests cover the /proc parsers, the Shizuku table codec and the formatters.

./gradlew testDebugUnitTest

Run the tests after changing parsing or formatting logic.

Known limitations

  • Without Shizuku, system CPU load and other processes may be hidden. Per-core frequency and online state are still shown when readable.
  • GPU counters are vendor-specific and often unavailable, especially on emulators.
  • Thermal sensor names come from the kernel and are displayed as-is.
  • There is no history persistence, home-screen widget, foreground service or notification monitoring.
  • power-tv does not request root; Shizuku is the only privileged path.
